I Was Enjoying My Night

That’s right, I was enjoying my night, and my entire day actually. I’ll start out with all of the good, and I’ll explain the rest, which is really not even a big deal, I’m just being a complainer. Any who, today started out a bit early, around 9:30 I woke up and rubbed my eyes. After a few minutes of chatting with my mom about our plans for the day I ate a nice heaping bowl of cinnamon  Cherio-O’s. They were delicious. Then I sat around for a few hours waiting for a text message. Today I planned on going out to swim with my old room mates at a creek in Durham and then have a BBQ. The text came quite a bit later than I was expecting (around noon) but I was still pleased because there was still plenty of time in the day to go out and have some fun. Eric, my old room mate, called up one of his friends who was also gonna come out to swim and asked if he could give me a ride and sure enough he could. So he swung on over to the Graduate where he picked me up. He seems like a nice enough guy, and after spending the afternoon together I feel like we would get along pretty good considering how comfortable he is in his own skin, for a change I wasn’t the only guy announcing that I was going to be getting naked in front of every one and didn’t care who took a quick peak or picture.

The swimming was great, the water was the perfect temperature, and there were even some nice deep spots. Deep enough that I was able to climb a fairly tall tree and jump out into the water. After swimming and taking stupid pictures we decided to head back to Jade’s house where we decided we weren’t going to have a BBQ anymore, and instead just go up to Chico for some Pizza at Mountain Mikes. But going back home isn’t as lame as it sounds, Curtis, Eric’s co-worker (who gave me a ride) decided to ride in the bed of the truck surfer style! Of course we took video, because it was rather funny, and the road isn’t exactly smooth as there were some nice size hills the truck had to climb to get back out to the road, so we got some good laughs. Once we were back at Jade’s house I put some dry clothes on, they called and ordered a pizza, then we all headed up to Chico. We had a nice lunch, Eric paid which was very generous, and then after we were finished, Curtis went off to work, and we drove over to Pet Works to see what the pet store had to check out. Long story short, Eric ended up buying a Guinea Pig with all the needed accessories totally $145 dollars. Talk about your impulse buyer, but I can’t say I blame him because the thing was so dang cute!

I got dropped off later at my mom’s only after stopping by a few places for Eric to show off his new pet. I sat around for a few minutes, and then she announced she was going on a bike ride so I joined in. We first had to stop at Sports LTD though so that I could get some air in my tires because they were low and I don’t have a bike pump. Once they got what they needed we headed out the door and not 50 feet after leaving the door my tire started leaking so fast that I could hear and before I knew it it was completely flat. So I walked it back in, told him what happened, and he threw a new tube in for me. Cost me a total of about seven bucks so not so bad. Finally we could get on with our bike ride. The weather was good, and the ride felt better, we did about 10 miles tonight I think, and had a good talk about my travels and my views on some things, she mostly just listened because I started going on about a few different things such as Hitch Hiking, CouchSurfing, Travelling, Culture, and Language. But I enjoyed it.

After we got back from the ride, I drank me some water and sat down on my computer to continue organizing it. The other night I started the enormous project of organizing all my personal files and folders. I can’t believe how much data I have accumulated in the last few years! It’s incredible. And going through all of it is kind of fun, because I am finding old pictures that I haven’t seen in a while and lots of funny documents that I wrote. It sure is taking for ever though. Tonight I have just been working on the music part alone, which is by far the most tedious thing to organize. But It has to be done! I figured that I would take a break and write this, and that’s where I can get into why I “WAS” enjoying my night. As I have written about previously I believe, I am a second class homeless citizen at the moment. For the past few nights I have been crashing at my mom’s new studio apartment. It’s nice, but I just sleep on the floor, no complaints there. The problem is she has a terrible problem with snoring, in fact she is actually snoring rather loudly right now. It’s so bad that it actually wakes me up in the middle of the night, which I do not appreciate. I remember when I was still living with my parents as a kid, and my room was all the way at the other side of the house. My door would be closed, and theirs would be closed, but I could sometimes still hear her, and my dad both snoring! It’s incredible, and annoying if your in the same room. I’m hoping that I can get out of here soon though, because I need a nice nights sleep and not be disturbed in the morning. Like I said, it’s not a big deal, I can’t be picky about these things, especially since I have no where else to go at the moment. But It is making it hard to enjoy the night at the moment, ha. Silly me.

That’s all I have to talk about now. Maybe more in the next few days. ;)

It’s Been A While

I have been really busy the last couple weeks. It’s been rather crazy for me. I mean I have been busy in the traditional sense, but my life has been rather hectic for sure. Since I haven’t updated in a while, this is going to probably sound like it’s all over the place, but I don’t really mind, because after all this is a personal blog for me, and only me, and anyone who wishes to read it. So with out further ado, let the stories begin.

First I would like to start off with my current situation. I am technically homeless at the moment, and I joke about being a second class homeless citizen because I have a job and friends couches to bounce around on until I can get back on my feet. The reason for all of this though is because when I left for Europe I had the plan to come back and stay with my parents so make some money, and get back on my feet not having to worry about anything. Well lucky for me my parents decided to split up while I was in Munich, Germany for the first time, and I basically tried to stay out of it the hole time so that I didn’t have to think about it while I was out having fun every day. When I finally got home though, I could see things were much worse than what I had imagined. My mom moved out and was living on her own in a little studio in someones back yard, but her “landlord” did not like it when people would come over to her house, so I couldn’t stay with her, and I couldn’t stay with my dad because I was already scheduled to work again on the 18th, which was my first day back in Chico, California. And I can’t stay with my dad because he lives in Los Molinos, which is about 25 miles away from where I work, and at the time I didn’t have any insurance, so I couldn’t legally drive, and with out money to pay for potential tickets that I would get for driving uninsured, I decided that it was just not a good idea to drive, which means that I couldn’t get to work if I lived at my dads house. So I started bouncing around at friends couches in Chico until I could find somewhere stable to work. And then it all hit me! If I was going to be a second class homeless citizen in Chico, where I don’t even like living in the first place, why not just go and do that somewhere where I would rather be.

The plan has evolved a bit, and now I am in Operation Leave Everything Version 3.1. I have tweaked the plan little by little, and radically changed it many times and now I feel like I have a pretty solid idea of how everything is going to work out for me. Honestly I should probably not be writing about this on the internet because it involves me quitting my current job at Staples, and they don’t know about anything yet, but they will in the next 2 days, so I see no issue with me writing about it now. Now I’m sure by now anyone actually reading my blog is interested in what my master plan is, so here it is. I am going to work for a couple more weeks. (16 days to be exact) Save up as much money as I can so that when I leave I will have enough money to pay for some food each day, and of course pay for my phone until I find a stable job and have money coming in. After I quit my job on the 12th, I am going to San Fran for a night with my buddy Adam to watch him get some fancy work done by the wonderfully amazing Brian Decker. I am assuming we will come back either the same night or the next day, and that’s when I plan on getting all of my things ready for my big move. My friend Brad up in Grass Valley said that I could stay with him, and when I told him I wouldn’t be able to pay rent for a while, he said not to worry about, so I am going to move up to Grass Valley as soon as I have all of my things ready, which for the most part already are, because I am just bring clothes, and a few little things of mine up there, everything else I am going to throw away and sell what I can sell. Once I am in Grass Valley I am going to start searching for a full time job to start saving up as much money as possible, and to be able to live a little bit more comfortably. In January Brad and I are going to move down to Santa Cruz together.

Sounds like a fool proof plan right? I honestly have no idea how it’s going to work out, but hey that’s a risk I’m willing to take, because I am just not happy where I am at now. Or maybe it’s just that I haven’t adjusted to being back yet and I still feel like I need to have adventure in my life. Or maybe I am just running from my Family problems at the moment. Who knows, what ever I am doing it, it’s happening, and I am going to make the best of what ever happens. Even if nothing works out I can always go back to my parents and stay with one of them. That’s what’s fantastic about family. I’m not going to let this happen though. I will make everything work out just fine.

As for my trip to Santa Cruz right after I got back to California, it was amazing, it’s the trip that made me decide to move to Santa Cruz in the first place. I have been before, and thought about it, but this was the deciding visit. I love the people I know down there, and they are always willing to go out and do something, I love the ocean and the beaches, and the weather, and I love the variety of food there is to eat down there, the smell of the air, the everything. I had a great time, did a little skim boarding with my buddy Robert, as well as some body surfing. Had some nice flash backs to child hood with Robert and Kevin which was kind of funny to think about. Went out to lunch and dinner with Pauly, Alex and a new face named Angel, and Robert was there with us as well. Hung out at the Chimera Tattoo/Way Body Arts for a total of 7 hours having conversations with different people about multiple different things and I was a really good time. not one dry moment. In the end though we finally had to leave, a little later than expected, but what ever. It was a long drive back, but we made it, and failed at stealing a street sign with Roberts name on it, I am going to try and get it next time I drive that way. It’s rightfully his after all. When we finally arrived at my mom’s new place, I could tell instantly that she had lost weight, and she hugged me and I think even cried a little bit, she was excited to see me for the first time in almost 3 months. We talked for a little bit, Robert also joined in, and then my mom totally forgot to pay him for gas. So now I have to try and get that out of her as soon as possible, and when I am in Santa Cruz next I am going to make sure to put some gas in Roberts truck for having to deal with gas shortage because my mom didn’t pay him as agreed.

Some other side notes that I didn’t feel important enough to write a book about. I gave my car to my brother. It no longer feels like my car. He wrecked it while I was gone, at least he’s okay, but he made the car his while I was gone, no big deal, he needs it more than me anyways. So he has my car now. I just get around on my bike which I enjoy very much actually. I haven’t had access to wifi in quite a while now because I am bouncing around, and even at my mom’s place she just uses her Galaxy Tablet mobile Hot Spot which honestly does not give good enough internet signal for me to want to use it. My mom supports my plan to just pack up and leave, my dad is okay with it, but not to fond of it at the same time, because he knows I am going to do it no matter what. That’s really it.

Yuck, Airports

I still remember my first time flying, all the excitement of actually going in a plane. I also remember not understanding why my parents disliked being in the airport, or even the plane for the matter. But now I totally understand. I am sitting in the airport here in Vienna, Austria and I must say, I am quite annoyed and I have only been here for about an hour so far. I admire the people who work at airports, I can only imagine how they must feel after a day of being asked “Which gate do I need to be at” over a thousand times. I get annoyed being asked the same question five times in a day!

Any who, here I am waiting to board the plane for Warsaw, Poland. I believe the boarding time is at 9:30 and departure is at 10:15. Hopefully it’s a nice easy flight and even more than that, I hope that they supply some sort of snack, but I am hungry! The last few nights have been nice though. It was really good to see Sebastian and his Family again, they really are like a second family for me. It was a very laid back time, with the exception of Salzburg, which was rather eventful. Lot’s of drunken madness, and by drunk madness I mean that I was sober and everyone else was drunk. It was funny though, it wasn’t until the very end of the night (or very early in the morning) that I got a little irritated. It’s one night I won’t forget for sure though. The rest of the time was just relaxing in Graz. Sleeping in, eating, and seeing people before I left. Very nice time.

In Vienna I stayed with another Couchsurfer named Rudi. He was a really nice guy, I was unsure about him at first, but I ended up actually really liking him and would even go back and stay again if I am in Vienna in the future. He fed me a bit, gave me a place to stay, talked a little about travel, and had WIFI to use. No complaints other than I broke out in a really bad rash right before I showed up. I’m not sure what from, but it’s been almost 2 days now and I still have it. It itches quite bad to, it started out just on my legs, but it worked it’s way up, its on my torso and arms, now as well. It seems to be getting a bit better, but I’m pretty sure that I’ll be itchy all through out my flight which is not to delightful to think about.

Anyways, that’s all I’ve got now. I’m gonna try and get some shut eye before the flight. I’ll write more once I’m in California. See you soon Santa Cruz.

So Much

There is more than enough to update date on right now. The last few days have been pretty…..shocking to say the least. I’m not going to write about it right now, so this is just serving as a reminder for me.

But Salzburg, Graz, and Vienna. That’s what’s been going down lately. And I just found out that I am scheduled for my first day of work August 18th, which is three days after I get back. Which means I really have two days to adjust to the times, and get my work face back on. Hopefully I can post pone work a couple days longer, because that’s just to quick! I’ll complain more about that later to. Probably when I get back home and have more time to write, at the moment I am actually rather occupied with trying to make sure that I make my flight on time and everything and what I am going to do.

Oh, and my body is freaking out and I have welts and red spots all over me, and they itch. Some kind of random allergy attack, and I don’t know what from. I took a cold shower, but it didn’t seem to help. So hopefully it all goes away eventually, because it itches so bad!

What an Intense 2 Days!

I ended up heading off to Munich. So I skipped Berlin and Dresden. I’m not to worried about that, And in all seriousness it’s easier for me and gives me plenty of get ready to go home, not that there is actually much to do beside get on the plane. Anyways, it took me around 30 hours to get to Munich from Hamburg. This was by far my worst hitch hiking experience! I got my first ride rather quickly and he took me over half way which was awesome. At this rest area I was offered a ride by a nice lady and her boyfriend the second I hopped out of the car, but they were going the other direction. They did however give me a bottle of water and talked to me for a few minutes. Shortly after that I met a Truck Driver who said he could take me about 20 KM down the road to a better spot with lots of trucks, He said I would for sure get a ride Directly to Munich from there. Naturally I got in with him hoping the grass was going to be green here. It wasn’t. He pulled off the Autobahn on a side road which seemed to be going nowhere, I honestly though that he was going to do some bad things to me, and then I saw a Gas Station. he took me there and explained that no trucks there would be going to Munich, and drove me 2 more KM to where his destination was. This was the GLS loading/unloading station for all the trucks. Basically a huge Warehouse type place. I knew that I wasn’t in a good spot instantly. There were fork lifts driving all around, people on big trucks, and other things you would expect at this type of place. After I got out I walked up to some guys and they said that i shouldn’t be there, but said they would try and help me out. I ended up getting in another truck who took me to the entrance/exit of the complex and said I needed to talk to the people who are working in the building. I felt like I was going to get arrest, they didn’t like that I was there and told me to live without helping me. So I walked about 3km in the pitch black of night to the Gas Station hoping I could find a ride. No such luck really. There was very limited traffic and everyone was going in the opposite direction. Finally after 2 or 3 hours of waiting I got a ride by a nice older man who took me back where I got picked up by the truck driver. I was very happy to be away from that place and at an actual rest area where the traffic was better. The traffic didn’t really matter much though.

When I first got there the weather was nice and inviting, and I took a nap on the grass outside only to be awoke by a light rain which turned into a pretty heavy rain. I moved under the roof of the filling area which extended to the building that was the service station. No one was going in the direction I needed. So I ate a few bananas and just went to sleep after puting on a few extra pairs of clothes to keep warm. I didn’t sleep good, and now my neck is very sore from the way I slept using my back pack as a pillow. I’m hoping that gets better in the next day or two. I ended up sleeping through the night though, mostly. I woke up in the morning, and after being rejected rides countless times, I slept for a couple more hours on a bench in front of the gas station since it was raining pretty heavily. Apparently the owners of the place didn’t like this though, because after I woke up I walked to the exit just to hold my thumb up with a sign, and a police guy cruised by and was eyeing me. I guess since I moved he wasn’t going to bother me, but I’m convinced that they called him for me. Bastards.

It took me quite a while to get a ride, and after the police officer, I figured it was best not to go and ask customers anymore so I just stayed in the same spot. An hour or so in, another person started holding his/her (I’m still not sure) up about 10 meters away from me! I was so pissed, after being there for 8 hours at the time I was feeling a bit territorial. I thought it was a girl at first and was going to be pissed if she got a ride before me just because she’s a lady! But a couple hours later I got a ride and this person was still standing there. I was very happy. This kid who picked me up was only 18 years old, so a very new driver, and he was actually coming from the Wacken festival as well! We talked a bit, but I mostly slept. He took me straight to Nuremberg and said that I should be able to find a person with a Bayern ticket going to Munich and that I could probably get the train for free. It didn’t work out that way. so I took to hitch hiking again. After about an hour i had a ride just 60KM out of Munich! Finally, I was getting rather excited. I waited for my next ride from some time. Border Patrol asked to search my bag. Why, I can’t tell you, but they did, only after I asked them to show me their ID’s before I showed them mine and granted access to my bags. They didn’t find anything of course, and I had to put it all back together. But they kept eyeing me like they thought they missed something.

An hour or so later my final ride showed up! They were nervous at first and asked if I was going to kill them or not, so I showed them my “Will not Kill You” sign. They laughed. In about 45 minutes I was in Munich again and I started off towards Michael’s Flat. Thankfully he was home. I got to meet some other couch surfers, including a new Long Term surfer he was hosting. It was really cool to see him again. Had a nice talk about my trip, learned some interesting things. And eventually went to bed, which was amazing! After sleeping on the ground outside for so long, this was amazing.

Although the night took an interesting turn. I had been feeling very bad, especially in my stomach for quite a few hours. Around 2 or 3am i woke up and had to go to the bathroom. I had the worst case of diarrhea I have ever had. it was not pleasant, it was so bad in fact, that when I sat down back in bed, I instantly had to get back up and spend another 20 minutes draining my bowels. Yuck. In the morning I had a few more episodes.

I had a small breakfast, and giggled quietly about the other couch surfers who did not appreciate the smell of the bathroom after I finished with it, and then I had to start out on the City because Michael and his long term were going out to get ready for a trip to Bangkok on Sunday. Not so bad. I got into the city, went to buy some food, and realized I didn’t have my wallet! I forgot it on the table damn it! Oh well. And that’s what brings me here. I am not sitting in starbucks, pretending to be a customer so that I can use the free wifi and relax, because I am just to exhausted to be out and about today. Later I think that I am going to head over to the English Gardens, pop a squat on a bench somewhere and read my book.

I have re-written this entry about 5 times differently each and every time. So I’m just going to make it short and sweet. I have around 30 euros left for 11 days. I have no idea where I’m going to end up after I leave Hamburg as I have no places lined up to stay. But I’m not worried and I only see the adventure of it all and not the negative of what is bad about it, in fact I really don’t think there is anything wrong with my current situation. I am very excited for what the future is going to bring me, I just wish that I had a camera to document some things. I do have my Flip Video though, maybe there will be a video of Exhausted me in the next few days.

I the place I plan to stay at tonight does not work out, then I am going hitch hike through out the night and get to a new city. Only after a quick visit to the Penny Markt to buy some cheap food to take along!

Another Day

Arrived in Hamburg last night around 7:30pm. I able to make the trip in one day, in one single ride! I was very happy about this. They took me directly to Hamburg. They themselves were on there way to the Waken Metal Festival so it was no problem. I drove alone with one of the guys in the “Caravan” I guess you would call it, a train of cars all going in the same direction. He was really cool, turned out he was a cop, we shared some stories talked a bit about life, friends, and family. And of course, they all thought my tattoo was crazy, and they were convinced it was infected because of how swollen it looked, even though I assured them that it’s fairly normal, especially for a large tattoo, but they didn’t want to listen and suggested I go to a hospitable. They did give me some ice though to put on it, which was very nice and felt pretty good. In fact I think that might have something to do with why it’s not swollen this morning.

Anyways, so they dropped me of in Hamburg, only after swapping names so we could keep in touch through Facebook (e-mail eventually), and Maybe next year when I come back I could crash his place and go to the festival with them. Pretty sweet! I gonna do that for sure.

So when I finally left them behind, I started walking, visited a store, and asked some directions so that I could locate the Metro Station. Once I finally made it to a station I borrowed someones phone to call my Host Anne, and got no answer. So I headed to the Hauptbanhof which was about 20 minutes away by train, and called again once I was there, and again I got no answer. I went into a McDonalds to try and use the WiFi but had no luck, because McDonalds wifi is through T-Mobile and they want you to register with them to use the Wifi, but registering requires you have a european phone number, which I don’t have. Instead I went into a casino to pay for internet. I managed to make contact through CouchSurfing.org and got directions to head out! I arrived around 10:15pm I believe, and she was about to go to bed, but showed me around and everything. Tonight I think we’re going to make dinner together. She said if I wanted I could go out and buy some things, but I think I’ll wait until she gets home so that we can go together, because I have no clue what she likes, or really what to buy to cook.

Below I have attached a few pictures, the last ones I took with it. Right after it was broken. I suppose it still works, but the pictures are out of focus and a bit blurry. Maybe I can still use it like this and just call it “art”? It’s still frustrating.
