Changes

It’s getting harder and harder to update now that I have a new job. I quit my other job, sort of. It’s complicated to be completly honest, it did not go the way I had hoped it would. But it is what it is. Now I work full time out at the Dunes. Work has been very good, I am working anywhere from 40 to 60 hour weeks which is great! Making lots of money in wages and in tips as well. But I gotta say it really is wearing me out. There is less free time in life. However things are looking up. I will be moving in with one of my friends in the next couple of days. This may effect me a little bit, obviously I will have monthly bills again, but even more serious I will more than likely be forfeiting the vehicle my sister has so graciously let me use to commute for work. There is even a positive in this though as I will no longer have to pay for gas, and whats even better is that I would be able to commute on my bike to and from work every day. It is only a 10 mile ride, hopefully not uphill though. This is not to far though, and the way I ride I should be able to make it fairly quickly. Before I took off while I was still working with Staples I commuted only by bicycle and got around fantastically. So I’m not all that worried about it.

The other day a friend I met while traveling passed through town, I was happy to be able to invite him to stay for a couple of nights, cook him food, and show him a good time while he was here. We gambled a bit, went hiking and swimming, saw the Hoover Dam, and shared stories. It was a grand-ole time. :D

I haven’t much of anything else to really talk about. Work has consumed my life, and I haven’t really had time to have any fun outside of my awesome job.

I hope to change of seasons is treating everyone as good as it is me!

Work, Work, Work!

Hard to believe that only a few short months ago I was that guy with a pack on my back, flying a sign at on a street corner or freeway off-ramp begging for spare change. Now I’m a working man, and still looking for a better job. Currently working with Majestic Mental Health, which is going good, it’s just lots of work outside of dealing with clients, driving, and going to monthly meetings. I can’t complain to much though, the wage is good, and there is a lot of freedom and flexibility.  Is it really all that great? I’m not willing to sacrifice this job for another job that would not be worth me time though.

For instance, the other day I got a call while I was at dinner with the family. It was the manager from a local Puma store asking to have me for an interview on Tuesday (today). Of course I accepted the offer. I got all dressed up, went into the interview and answered all of the generic questions such as “describe a time when you gave excellent customer service.” It wasn’t until the end of the interview that I was told that they were only looking for part time associates, and the location I would be working if hired was 60 miles outside of town! Right then and there I decided it was not worth my time.

As much as not having to write my own schedule, not off the clock work,  and only going to the same place to work really do appeal me. Driving that much just isn’t what I want to do. The gas alone would take up the majority of my wages! At least in my current position I am making enough to cover my gas, and still have left over money to live somewhat comfortable and have a little bit to save.

So I’ll continue working my health job until something better comes along. To be completely honest though, with as lazy as I am, I probably won’t be looking for work very hard. There is enough on my plate right now, and my time is valuable! The weather is warming up and it’s time to have some fun!

Yesterday I set up the rail out in the street in front of the house and started practicing the grinds and slides I used to be able to do on my skateboard. Soon I’m sure I’ll be able to do everything I used to be able to do. Along with skateboarding I’m looking forward to the heat rolling in so that I can head down to the water and start swimming and jumping off some cliffs again! And I’d also like to start learning how to boulder and rock climb this year. I know that there are some people who go out weekly in a group formed on CouchSurfing. I see some fun times ahead though.

That’s all I’ve got now. Rants and rambles! Toodles!

Time Sure Is Flying

It seems like I just arrived in Vegas only a few short weeks ago, but it’s already been three and a half months since then. So wild. Anyways, just a quick update on everything with my job, and future plans with me. The job itself is going good, I finished training, was assigned two clients, made contact with the first and have started my basic skills sessions with this client. It started out slow, and is still going slow. I go over to his house five days a week and two hours each of those days to work with him on his behavior and anger mostly, there are some other issues that will be addressed as well, but everything seems to stem from anger and behavioral issues. I gotta say it’s not really easy work. We mostly talked, I should say I mostly talked for the length of each session, which is proving to be non-helpful because he can’t focus for that long and he’s heard it all before, and I’m pretty sure its as boring for him as it is for me. Since starting I have been doing a lot of research on how to keep the attention of my clients who have ADD/ADHD and other issues. On Friday I went to turn in my hours and also took a look at some books and was able to copy some worksheets out of them to address anger with my client. The worksheets were awesome, but as we were unable to have our session at his home, his mother and self suggested we sit at the park, I don’t think any progress was made because of all the distractions around us, and of course the desire to go and play. Next week I am planning to head out to the main office and do some more reading before I meet with this client, and gather some ideas for more activities we can do that might be fun, or at least engaging so we can start making some progress. Hopefully I can find some good stuff, cause I gotta say, it hit me hard when I started thinking about how serious my role is in this child’s life. If I don’t do my job right, it has a direct effect on his life and well being!

Enough about work though I do have a life. Finally I gave the courts a call in Illinois, ugh, never a fun call to make especially when you owe money. At least now I know when my payment is due, and how much it is. $404.00 is due by March 25th. Lovely. On top of this I also owe $155.00 on my cell phone bill. Thank goodness I got my taxes back so I can cough all of it up to bills and fines. And because I am just starting with my new job I do not have enough hours to cover these expenses just by my first two checks! So I’m really going to hurting for money this month, and into next month as well. This also means that I will not be able to escape the country to Europe in May like I was really hoping to do. This is a huge bummer, but it will allow me to save up money, get in shape, and start preparing for my next big adventure.

As far as eventually getting my own personal website/blog up and running with hopes to stop using Facebook. I am still unsure when this will happen, I”m still trying to figure out costs, and how much time this type of thing will take. I’m a pretty lazy person, so getting around to actually designing a website and all that good stuff is gonna take time, especially considering I haven’t really worked with web design in quite some time. Although I have been taking courses through Udacity to further my knowledge of this type of stuff, and to also get back in mindset of writing code and troubleshooting related issues.  I will keep updates on this every now and again.

Finally the last bit of news, maybe it’s already been covered. But I got my navel (belly button, for those of you who don’t know what a navel is) pierced. I’ve been wanting to do it for quite some time now and finally got around to just doing it! Shane Von Ranniger at the Piercing Shop in Las Vegas, Nevada did it for me and it was done very well. We put in some fancy bling bling made by Anatometal. With green gems (Princess Cut), and we also anodized the piece a s very  nice shade of blue that goes perfectly with the green. We didn’t take a picture of it when I was fresh because I was bleeding a little bit, so I’ll be sure to take a good picture once it has fully healed, it’s to fabulous not to! That’s pretty much it though!

Themes

Giving new themes a try. The last them that was being used on my blog had been active since the creation of this website. I felt it was time for a change, especially now that I am writing more, and more people seem to be visiting and actually reading what I write. :)

If anyone has any advice on creating a custom theme let me know! I’m very interested in doing so eventually. Especially since I am getting more and more into design and coding again (for those that don’t know, in my younger days I was very much into web development)  Also any feed back on the current theme I am using would be greatly appreciated! I personally like it very much, bright in contrast to the dull gray and black that I was using before. The colors go very good, and it’s easy on the eyes. I think it will encourage people to visit more frequently because it’s more inviting and friendly.

To quickly update on the status of my clients, I made contact with one of them, and I am scheduled to meet up with them the 28th which is next week. We will be discussing scheduling and the treatment plan. Looking forward to this meeting. In a couple hours I will make contact with my second client and hopefully schedule a meeting for the next couple days to discuss the same things.

Wow! Two posts in one day.

Finally Starting Work

It’s been three weeks since I was initially interviewed and hired, but finally, after 4 days and 12 hours of training I am starting! Yesterday was my final day of training and we mostly went over note taking. Today I went in and was assigned people to work for as a Basic Skills Trainer. I am honestly very excited to start, after training I am very confident this will be work that is very rewarding on a personal level, and will keep me happy and content with my life while I am not on the go.

In the next hour or so I need to call and schedule a meeting with my first client and do a meet and greet and discuss a schedule for me to come over and work, together on the goals lined up in the treatment plan. The hours are going to be some what limited because I have to work around the schedules of my clients. I don’t think I’ll be working more than 20 or 25 hours a week, which is two or three clients usually, depending on what my clients require. On the side the when I am not teaching Basic Skills, my friend Shane, who you may remember split my tongue about three weeks ago (which is doing fantastic I might add!), asked if i would be willing to help out around his shop as much as I could. He said he’d compensate a bit for my time and help which is awesome. So i’m looking very forward to that as well.

For the first time in a while I finally have a schedule building up! And paperwork, lots of paper work. But it feel pretty nice finally have responsibility again. We’ll see how long that lasts though, haha I have a bad case of Wanderlust, and while it may be managed right now, It’s sure to break out again before long.

That’s all for now. Stay tuned for more from me!  As you have noticed I am writing quite a bit more now.

New Beginnings Start With New Hair!

Today is my first day of training for my new job, and what better way to prepare myself then head out and get my hair cut! This was probably the first time i have paid for a haircut in about a year and it looks great! (See pictures attached below) I went to a place called Sports Clips. Very friendly ladies work there, and because I was a new customer I go the VIP Treatment! Hot Towels, Massage, hair washing, she styled it up for me before I left, and even shaped my beard for me.

As for the new job, I am very excited to start and see what it’s all about. It took me much longer to actually get hired on and start working, so making it out to Europe like I still have hopes for in May is going to be really tough, but I think I can pull it off! I’ll update on that later.  Next week after I have started working, and not just training I’ll be sure to write a nice detailed report of how it is, what I’m doing and what the work is like.

That’s pretty much all I have to say for now! Wish me luck!New Dew

New Job! New Tongue!

Yay! I got a job. Finally. After searching for months!!!!!! I haven’t started yet because I had to gather a few documents. All of them were pretty easy to get with the exception of my high school diploma, which is in California. My dad finally sent it out for me yesterday though, so hopefully I’ll have that on Wednesday and be able to schedule training on Thursday or Friday! What I’ll be doing is working with people (mostly kids it sounds like) with Mental Disabilities teaching them basic skills and maybe some behavioral help as well. I’m not totally sure of everything, but after training I’ll have a much better understanding. I am very excited to start though, it sounds like really good work, fun, and stressful at times, but honest. I’m glad it’s not sales, or retail or customer service type work again. The pay is really good as well.

After my interview on Tuesday the 29th, January 2013 I came home to find out my name had been drawn in a sweepstakes I entered a couple weeks prior at the Bass Pro Shop. The prize is a two thousand dollar travel package to anywhere in the USA. All I have to do is go to a seminar and take a tour of some place, where they will probably try and sell me something. My sister and brother-in-law think it’s not real and a scam and aren’t will to help me go. For some reason they want a single female, or a couple to attend and pick up my travel package. So I need to find a friend willing to go with me, because even if it turns out to be a scam, at least I can say I tried!

And finally, more exciting news! I finally got my tongue split! After years of waiting! I still remember the first time I saw a split tongue, I was about 10 years old watching the discovery chanel with my family, and there was a segment about Eric Sprague aka The Lizard Man, and how he had his tongue split. I was so intrigued, but agreed when my family had said it was gross. And now 11 years later, I finally have joined thousands of other people who have went under the knife and had their tounges split. To be completely honest, it hurt pretty bad to get done, especially since i had it sutured as well. The the worst part of it is trying to heal it! Yuck. Hell, everysingle day. It’s still only the 4th day and I’m still in pain, still can’t talk for shit, my breath smells like a corpse, and eating is pretty difficult. It does feel a lot better today than it has in the last couple days. Artist Credit goes to Shane Von Ranniger, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Here’s a couple pictures. But first, a video I took yesterday (day 3) of me talking. Enjoy, and laugh a little!
